NYIKOS CUP
Colorado Mesa and Colorado School of Mines are playing for the Nyikos Cup for the eighth time this weekend. The annual trophy is named after longtime supporter of both schools, Michael Nyikos. Mines owns a 5-2 edge in the cup series but the Mavericks hold the all-time mark at 30-12, having won the past two matchups.

Dustin Rivas has put the fear into opposing quarterbacks for three years now and isnt stopping during his senior season. Rivas picked off Western State for his 17th career interception, tying the Colorado Mesa all-time mark. He is now tied with Vic Dutandette who played for the Mavericks in 1985-86.Â

Josh Brown set career-highs in the Mavericks win over Chadron State. The Las Vegas native hauled in nine passes for 116 yards with a long catch of 38 yards.Â

Uriah Vigil has stepped in and has made an impact on the Maverick defense. Vigil made his first start against Chadron State and made seven tackles. He is the Mavericks third leading tackler with 11. Â
MOVING ON UP
Colorado Mesa moved up in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) top-25 national poll this week to No. 11. They are the highest ranked RMAC school in the poll and third highest Super Region 4 team behind No. 2 Ferris State and No. 3 Texas A&M-Commerce.
AIR RAID
Against Chadron State, the Maverick secondary was under attack. They faced 73 passes and were able to limit the Eagles to a 56 percent completion percentage. They were, however, able to disrupt the passing game with a
George Manning pick-6 for the Mavericks first score.
DIRTY LAUNDRY
The Mavericks committed 13 penalties (110 yards) in the win over Chadron State which is the most since October 31, 2015 when they committed 13 penalties against Colorado Mines.
WHAT WOULD A WIN MEAN
A win would move the Mavericks to 3-0 on the season for the second time during
Russ Martin's tenure. It would also give them three straight wins over the Orediggers.Â
