IN ROUND ONE
Colorado Mesa scored eight runs between the seventh and eighth innings to catapult them to a 10-3 win over Quincy in the opening round of bracket two in the Division II CWS. The Mavericks scored five runs in the seventh inning without recording a hit. They stole three bases, walked five times and benefitted from two errors in the inning. Kyle Serrano and Bligh Madris hit back-to-back homers to fuel the three-run eighth inning.
AGAINST THE SPARTANS
The Mavericks defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 5-4 in 10 innings in their lone matchup in the two program's history. The matchup came in the opening round of the 2014 CWS. Garrett Carpenter earned the win in relief while Nate Robertson was 2-for-5 with a double. St. Thomas Aquinas defeated UC San Diego on a walk-off walk in the 12th inning in their CWS opener.Â
WHAT'S ON THE LINE
If the Mavericks were to win on Tuesday, they would advance to the NCAA Division II final four for the second time in program history. In 2014 they advanced to the final four where they defeated top-ranked Tampa to move into the title game. It would also mark the 50th win of the season for CMU, a mark they have never reached. The school record for wins is 49 that occured in the 2007 season.
MAJOR AWARD FINALISTS
Kyle Leahy and Bligh Madris were each named a first-team All-Region recipient on all three major outlets. Madris was named the Region Player of the Year by all three outlets and was also named a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award which is given to Division II's most outstanding player. Colorado Mesa's Austin Kaiser won the award in 2014. Leahy picked up ABCA Region Pitcher of the Year honors and was named a finalist for the Brett Tomko Award given to the most outstanding pitcher in Division II.
THEIVES
The Mavericks havent stolen as many bases this season as in years past. But, in the Quincy game, the Mavs swiped a season-high seven bases which is their highest single-game total since 2013. JJ Carr stole three bases himself which is the most in a single-game since Austin Kaiser in 2014.
BACK-TO-BACK
Senior Kyle Serrano and redshirt sophomore Bligh Madris hit back-to-back homers in the Mavericks opening round win over Quincy. It was the first back-to-back home runs the Mavericks have hit since February of 2015 where Mitch Robinson and Kevin Mitchell accomplished the feat.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks sit at No. 2 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspapaer rankings just behind No. 1 Delta State. Delta State and No. 3 North Georgia both lost in their opening round matchups and will play each other in an elimination game on Memorial Day Monday. Colorado Mesa will play No. 16 St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday.Â
AFTER THE SIXTH
The Mavericks own a 43-0 record when leading after six innings of play. To go even further, they are 31-0 after seven innings and 29-0 after eight innings of play. That is thanks in large part to their bullpen which has a 3.81 ERA and opponents are hitting just .246 off of them.

2005 Colorado Mesa Maverick Sergio Romo signed a one-year, three million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Romo spent the first nine seasons of his big league career with the San Francisco Giants and recently competed in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico, his second WBC appearance.
