GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The No. 19 Colorado Mesa University softball team completed the series sweep of Black Hills State with a pair of wins Saturday (April 8).
CMU won game one 12-1 and game two 10-0, and scored in every inning in both games.
AnnMarie Torres hit a two-run homer to right field to give the Mavericks an early lead in the first.
Mesa capitalized on two Black Hills errors in the second scoring five runs on six hits, five of which were singles.
Alex Wiley hit a homer to left field in the third for the lone BHSU run.
Black Hills committed two errors in the third that led to three more Mesa runs.
Alex Dufour drove in two runs in the fourth with a triple through the left side.
McKenzie Surface (18-3) struck out seven and scattered five hits in the win.
The Mavericks scored 10 runs in game two on 12 hits, only one of which was for extra bases.
Leadoff batter
Alexandria Dufour reached base in all four at-bats collecting three singles and a walk. She would score three runs and drive two in.
Brooke Hodgson finished 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Andy Hancock (5-1) struckout five and gave up two hits in the complete game shutout.
Colorado Mesa (32-4, 25-2) will play at Regis April 14-15.
