DENVER – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa University softball team split a pair of games at Regis Friday (April 14).
The Mavericks lost game one 2-1 and won game two 9-0.
The loss snapped CMU's 24-game winning streak.
Ty Houkamau was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning in game one.
Zoe Pakes reached on an error, and the runners advanced on a sac bunt by
Baylee Boren.
Sarah Phillis, who was pitch running for Houkamau, scored on a fielder's choice by
Maggie Manwarren.
The Rangers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a double and a single.
McKenzie Surface took the loss for CMU, just her fourth of the season.
Alex Dufour led the Mavericks in game two batting three-for-four with three RBIs, including a two-RBI single in the fifth.
The Mavericks scored in four of five innings, plating nine runs, six earned, on nine hits.
Kimbri Herring improved to 10-0 scattering three hits in the complete game shutout.
Colorado Mesa (33-5, 26-3) will close out the series with Regis (24-22, 16-14) Saturday (April 15).
