Mavericks Host Fireworks Night this Weekend

Colorado Mesa won their 26th regular reason Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship with the four-game sweep of Adams State last weekend. The title is their sixth in a row and gives them the honor of hosting the RMAC Tournament beginning on May 10.

The Mavericks opponent this weekend enters the series in second place in the RMAC. Colorado School of Mines are winners of their last seven contests including a four-game sweep of Colorado Christian last weekend. Colorado Mesa owns an all-time mark of 134-20 against Colorado Mines in the two schools' history.

Freshman Tyler Blomster is leading the Oredigger staff and may be one of the hottest pitchers int he RMAC. Blomster is 4-1 with a 3.63 ERA and has seven of his eight starts have yielded four runs or fewer including four quality starts.

LAST WEEKEND
Colorado Mesa completed a four-game sweep of the Adams State Grizzlies this past weekend. The offense outscored Adams State 38-7 and had a .395 batting average in the series. The pitching staff finished with a 1.69 ERA in 32 innings pitched. They struck out 30 batters while walking just seven in the series.

SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS
Colorado School of Mines is led on the mound by freshman Tyler Blomster. The Texas native sports a 3.63 ERA and a 4-1 record to lead the staff. He has allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season. Connor Lambert and Cody Marvel lead the 'Digger offense. Marvel has hit seven home runs while Lambert leads the team with 10 doubles and 39 RBIs.

RMAC SWEEP
Sophomore pitcher Kyle Leahy earned his third RMAC Pitcher of the Week honor after pitching a complete game shutout against Adams State. He scattered six hits and struck out three while not allowing a runner to touch third base. Bligh Madris was named the Player of the Week for the first time this season. He batted .500 with a double and three home runs in the series. He also drove in 13 and was named the NCBWA Regional Player of the Week.

CLINCHED
Colorado Mesa clinched their 23rd overall RMAC Regular Season Championship and their sixth championship in a row. The Mavericks will now host the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament beginning on May 10. This season the tournament moves back to a six-team format for the first time in two seasons. 

CRACK THE WHIP
Colorado Mesa tops the conference and ranks fourth nationally in WHIP at 1.16. Kyle Leahy is third in DII with a 0.81 WHIP.

WE'RE GOING STREAKING
The Mavericks improved their season long win streak to 21 games after the four-game sweep of the Adams State Grizzlies last weekend. It ties the longest win streak since 2015.

REGIONAL RANKINGS
Colorado Mesa debuted at No. 2 in the first set of NCAA South Central Regional Rankings. Angelo State was the No. 1 team with Lubbock Christian at No. 3 followed by West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State to round out the top six. The top six teams qualify for the NCAA South Central Region Tournament.   

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks moved up to No. 8 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper coaches poll and matched that ranking in the Perfect Game poll. CMU was still at No. 4 in the D2Baseballnews.com poll but made a significant jump in the NCBWA poll, moving to No. 14.

ALUMNI UPDATE
2005 Colorado Mesa Maverick Sergio Romo signed a one-year, three million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Romo spent the first nine seasons of his big league career with the San Francisco Giants and was recently competed in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico, his second WBC appearance.

ON DECK
Colorado Mesa will be on the road for the final week of the regular season for the second straight season. They will travel to Denver to take on the MSu Denver Roadrunners in a four-game series beginning on Friday, May 5.
