GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 18 Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse team secured their second straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship after a 10-4 win over Adams State on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.
The Mavericks won the inaugural RMAC Championship last season after sharing the regular season title with Westminster and winning the tournament championship over the Griffins.
Scoring was hard to come by in the first period. Adams State took the early lead but
Jack Griffin and
Michael Dasch Jr. scored back-to-back goals to give the Mavericks the first period lead, 2-1.
The Mavericks shutout the Grizzlies in the second period 4-0, highlighted by a pair of
Steve Brandenburg goals, to give Colorado Mesa the 6-1 lead at the break.
Colorado Mesa outscored Adams State in the second half 4-3 to secure the win.
Griffin paced the Maverick offense today scoring four goals and assisting on another. Griffin now has 30 goals on the season.
Colorado Mesa outshot Adams State 66-20 but only 26 of those would come on net. The Mavericks also won the groundball battle 35-26.
Michael Marino gave the Mavericks plenty of opportunities after winning 11-of-18 faceoff battles and scooping up five groundballs.
Remi Reeves made eight saves in goal and earned the win.
The Mavericks will close out the regular season with a matchup with RMAC rival Westminster next Saturday at 1pm.
