GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 21 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at Suplizio Field.
In the first game of the day,
Chris Ramirez pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Mavericks to a 2-0 victory over the Cowboys.
Ramirez allowed just two hits and walked one while striking out eight. He retired 16 straight hitters after allowing the first batter of the game to reach on a base hit and didn't allow a runner past second base.
The Mavericks got on the board in the second inning on a RBI single by
PJ Gonzalez that scored
Bligh Madris who led off the inning with a double.
Madris also picked up the other run on the day with a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth scoring
Brick Paskiewicz.

Lane LaCrone to give Colorado Mesa the 11-10 win over Highlands in eight innings.
The Mavericks led 10-3 in the top of the seventh but surrendered seven runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 10-10. CMU walked five and gave up three hits in the inning.
Colorado Mesa got on the board in the first inning with a pair of two-run home runs.
Bligh Madris hit the first one, his seventh of the year, that scored Carr while freshman
Trevin Reynolds hit one that cleared the fence in left center, his second of the season.
Madris finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs scored while Reynolds went 2-for-4.
PJ Gonzalez also homered in the game, a three-run shot to left center that gave the Mavericks the 10-3 advantage in the sixth inning. He finished the game 2-for-3 with four runs driven in.
JR McDermott started on the mound and went five innings and allowed one run on two hits, walked three and struck out 10 but didn't factor into the decision.
The Mavericks ran their win streak to eight and are currently 21-8 on the season and 13-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow at 12pm.
