Brandenburg Nets Eight in Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Senior Steve Brandenburg single handily grounded the Rockhurst Hawks on Tuesday evening at Walker Field as the Mavericks claimed a 13-7 win in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.

Brandenburg netted a school record eight goals in the win. He took 14 shots with 12 on frame and scored four goals in each half. The Seal Beach, Calif. native also scooped up four ground balls.

The Mavericks lone loss of the season was to Rockhurst just over two weeks ago in Kansas City. The Hawks claimed an 11-10 victory which moved them into the USILA rankings last week at No. 19.

Colorado Mesa scored the first five goals of the match with Brandenburg netting three, sandwiched with a goal by Logan Olmstead and Jack Griffin. The goal was Olmstead's second of the season and Griffin's tenth of the year.

Colorado Mesa took a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.

Rockhurst would claw back into the game after outscoring the Mavericks in the third quarter 3-2 that made the score 9-6 heading to the final quarter of play.

But, Brandenburg was just too much for the Hawks as he netted four fourth quarter goals including the final three goals of the night.

Calen Ketcham was the only other Maverick with a multi-goal game with two.

Remi Reeves earned the win in net making nine saves and facing 27 total shots.

The win moved Colorado Mesa's record to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in the RMAC while Rockhurst fell to 5-2, 1-2 in the conference.

The Mavericks will be on the road on Sunday as they take on Maryville (Mo.) in Alamosa.
