GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University baseball team swept the doubleheader against CSU-Pueblo Saturday (March 25).
The Mavericks won game one 10-1 and game two 6-1.
Mesa capitalized on three Pueblo errors turning them into four runs on a pair of singles in the first.
Kyle Serrano extended the Maverick lead to 5-0 with a homer to left field in the second.
Garrett Ball led off the third inning with a double to right field and would score on a sac bunt.
Pueblo's lone run came in the fourth inning thanks to a homer to right field by Gilbert Sauceda.
Bligh Madris two-run homer to right field highlighted a four-run sixth inning for the Mavericks. Garett Ball's double to left center later in the inning also drove in a run.
Chris Ramirez earned the win giving up one run on three hits.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mavericks scored a pair of runs in the second on two singles.
JJ Carr led off the third with an infield single, and
Kyle Serrano double to left center.
Bligh Madris than drove the pair home with a single to right field.
Pueblo hit three consecutive singles in the fourth to score its only run of the contest.
PJ Gonzalez hit a leadoff double to center field and would advance to third on a wild pitch. Gonzalez scored on an RBI single to center field by
Lane LaCrone.
Greg Reynolds, who finished 3-for-3 at the plate, drove in Reynolds with a double to left field.
JR McDermott earned his third win of the season giving up one run and striking out nine batters and giving up five hits in six innings of work.
Colorado Mesa (17-8, 9-2) and CSU-Pueblo (13-16, 7-8) will close out the series Sunday (March 26).
