th ranked Cal Baptist but stranded 11 runners in a 7-3 loss on Thursday afternoon at Suplizio Field in the opener of a four-game non-conference series.
The Mavericks pounded out 11 hits to the Lancers seven but stranded 11 runners on base, seven of those were in scoring position.
Cal Baptist got on the board in the third inning on a three-run homer by John Glenn that barely got over the mini monster in left field.
The Lancers tacked on another in the top half of the fifth inning on a towering fly ball that got out of the park in right field by Bryce Macy.
Cal Baptist scratched across one more in the seventh inning to make it 5-0 before the Mavericks got on the board.
Tanner Nieslanik pinch-hit in the bottom of the seventh and singled sharply to center field. He would later come around to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.
The Lancers got a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth just before the Mavericks would put together their best swings of the afternoon.
Garrett Ball led off the ninth with a double followed by a pair of outs.
Kyle Serrano drove in Ball on a RBI single up the middle followed by a pinch-hit double by
Will Dixon to make it 7-3. But that was all the Mavericks could muster.
Tyler Day took the loss on the mound after going 4.1 innings. He allowed three runs on two hits, walked one and struck out four.
The Mavericks and Lancers will be back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12pm at Suplizio Field.
