ALAMOSA, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team's rally came up short at Adams State falling 70-67 Friday (Feb. 10).
Adams State led by as many as 16 in the first half, before taking a 39-30 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Grizzlies shot 48-percent (16-33) from the field in the first half and held the Mavericks to 33-percent (9-27).
CMU's defense held ASU to 36-percent (12-33) in the second half and its offense improved to 44-percent (11-25) over the final 20 minutes.
Free throws were heavily tilted in CMU's favor. The Mavs shot 19-29 from the line and the Grizzlies were 5-10.
Adams dominated the glass out-rebounding Mesa 44-33, including 13-4 on the offensive glass.
Brandon Sly led ASU with a game-high 19 points.
Eimer Lopez led Mesa with 14 points, and
CJ Davis finished with 13 points.
Kabir West scored 11 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
ASU led 19-2 in fast-break points.
Colorado Mesa (7-17, 6-12) will play at Fort Lewis Saturday (Feb. 11).
