Box Score Colorado Mesa University traveled to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State University in a preseason exhibition match. The Mavericks, led by 31 points from
Emilio Acedo, kept the game close but fell to the Division I opponent 86-75.
In the first half the Mavericks kept it a two score game until the final eight minutes in the half when the Rams went on a 13-3 run to expand the lead to 37-23. The Rams kept the pressure going into the half as they led it 48-33. Acedo had 14 points to lead all scorers at the half after going 4-6 from behind the three point line.
The second half was better for the Mavericks, despite being able to come all the way back to win the game. CMU won the half 42-38 behind 17 points from Acedo including going a perfect 5-5 from deep.Â
The Mavericks finished the day with only two scorers in double digits with Acedo and
Michael Skinner off the bench with 10. The team finished with a 44 percent shooting percentage overall and 36 percent from behind the three point line.
As for the Rams all five starters finished in double figures, led by Che Bob who scored 28 points including going 14-18 from the free throw line. While the team only shot 41 percent from the field and 25 percent from three, it was the free throws that helped seperate the two teams. The Rams finished with 28 made free throws while the Mavericks only had eight on the night.
CMU will now open their regular season next Friday as they take part in the D2 Conference Challenge at Brownson Arena. The Mavericks will be taking on St. Edward's University on at 7 p.m. on Friday and Dallas Baptist University on Saturday with the same 7 p.m. start time.
