GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa opened up the Mavericks duals on Thursday evening against Dixie State at the Elliott Tennis Center. The Mavericks dropped an 8-1 decision to the Trailblazers.
Colorado Mesa dropped all three double matches and fell behind 3-0.
Kristen Kirby and
Emily Beckley fell 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to Lacey Hancock and Yolena Carlton. The duo fell behind early but battled back and had a couple of opportunities to make it 7-7 but could not put the point away.
Kirby and Hancock locked up in a battle at No. 1 singles that saw Hancock take a commanding first set 6-3. The sophomore Kirby fought from behind in the second set and took it 6-2. After multiple long rallies, Kirby emerged the winner in the third set tiebreak 10-6.
Emily Beckley dropped a three setter at No. 2 singles as did
Carolena Campos at No. 6 singles.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow with an 8am matchup against Colorado Christian at Canyon View Park. They will also have an afternoon dual with MSU Denver.
