Mavericks Host First RMAC Game of the Season

LAST WEEK
The Colorado Mesa women's soccer team scored one first half goal and held on to defeat NCAA South Central region foe Angelo State 1-0 in a neutral site contest at Gateway Field. Colorado Mesa Mavericks had a great battle against Sonoma State Seawolves Thursday (Sept. 8), but barely fell short. Final score between the Mavericks and Seawolves (0-1).The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team notched its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout win over Humboldt State Saturday (Sept. 10) 

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS
The Griffins are 5th in the RMAC right now with a 1.25 goal average per game, and also taking 15.50 shots per game. Their record coming into Sunday's game is 3-1, with this being their first home game of the season. In the 2015 season the Mavericks fell for Westminster twice just shy of one goal (0-1, 2-3).

LAST YEAR
The Mavericks fell 2-0 in both season games against the Griffins. The Griffins finished their 2015 season with a 10-6-1 record verse the Mavericks 4-10-4 record.

COACHING
Jason Clare enters his third season as the head women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University. Last season was Clare's first season as a head coach at any level. He led the Mavericks to a 1-13-4 record and lost six matches by just one goal. Danielle Thurman was named the assistant women's soccer coach at Colorado Mesa University in the summer of 2016. Thurman comes to the Mavericks after a successful stint at Otero Junior College in La Junta, CO.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Mavericks will host UCCS Friday (Sept. 23) and Western State Sunday (Sept. 25) both at 1 PM.
