STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team ran their win streak to six after taking their final two matches at the TexAnn Volleyball Invitational, hosted by Tarleton State.
The Mavericks defeated Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Commerce by matching 3-1 scores to close out non-conference action.
In the day's opening match, the Mavericks earned a 3-1 (25-18, 28-26, 23-25, 25-22) over Eastern New Mexico with some stellar defense.
CMU had 11 total blocks in the match and had three players finish with double-digit digs. Mackenzie Edwards finished with a team-high 15 digs and finished the double-double with 15 kills.
Taylor Woods had 14 digs and
Ali Svorinic finished with 10 while adding a game-high 46 assists.
Hattie Gianinetti led the Maverick block with five total blocks and teammate
Alyssa Chutka had three and also added 15 kills.
In the tournament's final match, Colorado Mesa completed the weekend sweep with a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-12) win over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Newcomer freshman
Allison Smith provided the Mavericks a spark on the attack. Smith had a season-high 13 kills and hit .407 in her first taste of extended playing time.
Zie Edwards had a game-high 19 kills while hitting .318 in the match.
Woods added a game-high 24 digs.
Colorado Mesa will look to extend their win streak next week when they travel to Gunnison for a matchup with Western State before returning home for a Saturday tilt with Westminster in Brownson Arena.
