PUEBLO, Colo – Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse earned a 17-7 win on Friday evening (Apr. 8) against CSU-Pueblo in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
Colorado Mesa started off the game strong against CSU-Pueblo with a hat trick from
Steve Brandenburg to give the Mavericks an 8-5 lead.
The Mavericks continued the offensive power putting up nine goals in the second half and held CSU-Pueblo to only two goals.
The Mavs outshot the ThunderWolves in the game 43-33 with 31 of the Mavericks shots coming on goal compared to just 17 for the ThunderWolves.
The Mavericks dominated the face-offs winning 21-of-27.
Colorado Mesa doubled up CSU-Pueblo in ground balls scooping up 42 to CSU-Pueblo's 26.
Man-down defense was strong for the Mavs as they were able to kill off 2-of-3 ThunderWolf extra-man opportunities.
Extra-man struggled for Colorado Mesa only converting on one of their two man-up attempts.
The Mavericks had eight goal scorers, seven of which had two or more goals.
Steve Brandenburg led Colorado Mesa in goals and points with four goals and five points.
Zach Weaver played the first three periods making seven saves and allowed six goals.
Remi Reeves closed out the game making three saves and allowing one goal.
Colorado Mesa (5-4, 2-1) returns to action on Sunday (Apr. 10) as they travel to Alamosa, Colo. to take on Adams State.
