GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse team defeated Rockhurst 11-8 Friday (April 1).
The two teams swapped goals early before CMU would jumped out to a first half lead 6-4.
RU was able to strike first in the second half, but CMU would counter with five straight goals to lead 11-5.
Rockhurst scored three straight, but CMU would hold on for the lead.
The Mavericks out-shot the Hawks 35-26. 24 of the Mavericks shots were on goal compared to 17 for the Hawks.
The Mavs were able to win the ground ball battle out scooping the Hawks 26-17.
Colorado Mesa dominated the face off circle winning 14 of 23.
Man-down was strong for the Colorado Mesa killing both Rockhurst attempts.
CMU's extra-man also contributed by converting on one of their two attempts.
Colorado Mesa had nine players with at least one point.
Steve Brandenburg led the Mavs in goals and points with three goals and four points.
Zach Weaver started for the Mavs and allowed five goals against and made nine saves.
Colorado Mesa (4-4, 1-1) returns to action Friday (April 8) as they travel to Pueblo, Colo. to take on CSU-Pueblo.
