SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Colorado Mesa 197 pounder
Marcus Haughian dropped a pair of matches on medal day and had to settle for eighth place at the NCAA National Championships at the Danny Sanford Premier Center.
Haughian lost his first match of the day to Ryan Beltz of Maryville 12-6 and dropped into the seventh and eighth place match.
He trailed from the get go in his first bout. Haughian was taken down to his back early but rebounded and got to within 6-4 on the scoreboard. That was all the closer he would get.
In the seventh place match, Haughian fell to Ryan Parmely of Upper Iowa by pin in the second period.
Marcus was in control and had the advantage but went to his back and was pinned.
St. Cloud State was crowned the team champion holding off Notre Dame of Ohio and Nebraska-Kearney.
