Men's Hoops Heads South to New Mexico This Week

Colorado Mesa will take its longest road trip of the season when it heads to New Mexico for games against Western New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands. The Mavericks are currently on an eight-game winning streak, its longest of the season. 

RMAC Title Race
Colorado Mesa currently sits in second place in the RMAC, one game behind first. Colorado Mesa holds the tie breaker with Fort Lewis due to the Mavericks win over the Skyhawks earlier this season. 

Player of the Week
Colorado Mesa earned its league-leading seventh RMAC Player of the Week honor last week when Eimer Lopez was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Lopez, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, opened the weekend with a career game in a win against CSU-Pueblo. Lopez scored a career-high 24 points and four rebounds. He dished out five assists and a career-high five steals. He followed up with eight points, five rebounds and one steal in a win over Western State. He is averaging 12.1 points per game, third best on the team.

Free Throws
Colorado Mesa enters the weekend ranked second in the RMAC in free throws made (393) and free throw percentage (75.7-percent). Ryan Stephan leads the league and ranks third in Div. II in free throws made with 161. Stephan leads the team and ranks 10th in the RMAC in free throw percentage at 80.1-percent. 

3-Point Shooting
CJ Davis has established himself as one of the premier perimeter shooters in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native has made a league-best and ninth most in Div. II 69 3-pointers, ranks second in the league and 13th nationally in 3-point attempts (173) and third in the RMAC and 17th nationally in 3-point field goals per game (3.29). 

Ryan Stephan
Ryan Stephan continues his dominating season campaign. The Lakewood, Colo., native ranks in the top-25 nationally in nine categories, first in double-doubles (15), second in total rebounds (243), second in defensive rebounds per game (9.19), third in points per game (25.8), third in rebounds per game (11.6), third in free throws made (161), fourth in free throw attempts (201), fourth in total points (542) and sixth in total field goals made (181). 

Looking Ahead
CMU will stay on the road making the tip north to face Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines.
