GRAND JUINCTION, Colo. – No. 15 Mavericks fall in its home opener and first ever RMAC game to Westminster 12-7 at Walker field Saturday (Feb. 20).

A very slow first half found the Mavs trailing 5-1 with the Mavs only first half goal coming from Aaron Eggiman at the 3:27 mark of the second period.
The Mavs started to rally in the second half scoring six total goals.

Penalty trouble kept the Mavs from making any kind of solid come back with a total of ten penalties for eight minutes. Compared to the Griffins five penalties for three and a half minutes.

Shots stayed even with the Mavs edging out the Griffins 41-40. The Griffins won the ground ball battle beating out the Mavs 22-18.

The Griffins dominated faceoffs winning 16-23.

The Mavs man-down unit held their own the ten times they came out on the field, holding the Griffins to only three man-up goals.

The extra-man unit for the Mavs struggled to produce any goals. Scoring once on five opportunities.

Steve Brandenburg led the Mavs with four goals.

Josh Holland led the Griffins with five goals and six points.

Colorado Mesa returns to action Feb. 29 to face the Augustana in Denver, Colo.
