ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team open the 2016 season with a 4-3 win over Div. I Southern Utah Friday (Feb. 19).
 
The Mavs earned one point after sweeping the doubles matches against the Thunderbirds.
 
Frederikke Karst and Emily Dodson won 6-4 at No. 1. Emily Beckley and Amy Beeston won 6-1 at No. 2, and Katie Kirby and Katie Metz got a 6-2 win at No. 3.
 
Emily Dodson defeated Teresa De Enrique Schmidt 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, and Michelle Phillips defeated Megan Bell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.
 
Emily Beckley followed up with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win against Laura Martin Lozano at No. 4.
 
CMU plays again Saturday (Feb. 19) at 10 a.m. against Dixie State.
