SPEARFISH S.D. - The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team dropped to 12-6 in the RMAC after an 88-77 loss to Black Hills State Friday (Feb. 13).
 
The Yellow Jackets went on an 8-2 run to start the game. The Mavs got within two, 6-8, but the Yellow Jackets shot 11-18 from the three point line and led by as many as 20 in the first half.
 
The Mavericks trailed 28-44 to start the second half.
 
The Mavs cut the Yellow Jacket's lead to six after a layup by Eimer Lopez with 5:52 left in the game, but that would be the closest they would get the remainder of the night.
 
Three point shooting favored the Yellow Jackets who shot 48.6-percent (18-37). The Mavs finished the game shooting 30-percent (6-20).
 
Nick Ongarato led the Yellow Jackets with 25 points and six rebounds.
 
Kabir West led the Mavericks with a career-high 23 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field. Eimer Lopez finished with 17 points, shooting 6-10 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
 
Ryan Stephan finished the game with 13 points and seven rebounds.
 
Colorado Mesa will play at South Dakota Mines at Saturday (Feb. 13).
