SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Colorado Mesa extended their win streak to four games after a 77-61 win over Westminster in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Saturday evening in Behnken Field House.
The Mavericks shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field while limiting the Griffins to just 36.2 percent (21-of-58) in the game.
Junior
Ma'ata Epenisa was nearly perfect from the field, hitting on 7-of-8 shot and finishing with a team-high 19 points. Epenisa added seven rebounds including three on the offensive end.
Westminster jumped out to a 10-5 early in the first quarter but then allowed Colorado Mesa to go on a 10-2 run to close out the opening quarter.
The Mavericks never trailed again and built a 19-point lead with just 20 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.
Three other Mavericks finished in double-figures as
Bryanna Adams finished with 12 points and
Khadijah Vigil and
Sydney Small each had 11 points.
Westminster's Denise Gonzalez led all scorers with 21 points and hit five three-pointers in the game.
Colorado Mesa is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC while Westminster falls to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the conference.
Colorado Mesa will host their conference home opener on Friday when they take on RMAC rival Fort Lewis at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
