SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Colorado Mesa dropped an 89-68 decision to the Westminster Griffins on Saturday evening in Behnken Field House in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball game.
Westminster led wire-to-wire and had a lead of 30 at 80-50 with 4:43 to play. Colorado Mesa closed the game out on an 18-9 run.
The Mavericks shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field that included six made three-point baskets.
Colorado Mesa could not slow down the red-hot Griffins. Westminster shot over 50 percent from the field and over 42 percent from three.
Senior
Eimer Lopez paced the Mavericks with a season-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field (58.3 percent). He added five rebounds and two assists.
Tanner Riley scored a career-high 16 points and
James Sylvester chipped in 12.
Colorado Mesa is now 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC while Westminster improves to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the conference.
Colorado Mesa will host their conference home opener on Friday when they take on RMAC rival Fort Lewis at 7:30pm in Brownson Arena.
