GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – Rasmus Bach and Joshua Blaylock scored a combined 50 points to lead No. 20 Fort Lewis to an 89-72 win over Colorado Mesa Friday (Dec. 9).
The Skyhawks jumped out to an early 12 point lead, 20-8, that would grow to as many as 21, 37-16, with six minutes remaining.
The Mavericks responded with an 11-0 run thanks to 3-pointers from
Nate Hawley,
James Sylvester,
Ludvig Saldh and
CJ Davis to close within 10, 37-27.
FLC closed the half on a 5-0 run to lead 48-33.
Trent Clay was a bright spot for the Mavericks making all four shots from the field and his one free throw to lead the team with nine points at the break.
Fort Lewis shot 54-percent (17-31) from the field compared to Colorado Mesa who shot 38-percent (12-31).
James Sylvester drained a pair of free throws to cut the Fort Lewis lead to just eight, 69-61, early in the second half, but the Skyhawks responded with a 13-0 run over the next six minutes to lead 82-61. The lead would grow to as many as 22 points before ending at 17, 89-72.
Turnovers hampered the Mavericks. The Skyhawks scored 22 points off 16 Maverick turnovers while CMU scored 12 points off 10 turnovers.
FLC capitalized at the free throw line. The Skyhawks shot 20-24 (83-percent) from the line compared to 8-13 (61-percent) for the Mavs.
Fort Lewis out-rebounded Mesa 38-28.
Ludvig Saldh tied his career-high to finish with a team-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers.
Eimer Lopez was the second Mav in double figures with 16 points.
Rasmus Bach led Fort Lewis with 27 points, and the RMAC Preseason Player of the Year Joshua Blaylock scored 23.
Daniel Hernandez (12 points) and Alex Semadeni (11 points) also finished in double digits for CMU.
Colorado Mesa (1-8, 0-3) will host Adams State Saturday (Dec. 10).
