GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team played in their second crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match in as many days. Tonight, the UCCS Mountain Lions pulled out a five-set 3-2 win over the Mavericks in Brownson Arena.
The loss was the first this season for the Mavericks when they win the first set which they won 25-23. They were 18-0 on the season heading into tonight's match.
Colorado Mesa hit .188 in the first set which was their high for the match. They never reached .100 for the rest of the night and hit a low of -.024 in the second set.
The Mavericks committed 55 errors on the night including 40 attack errors and seven service errors. In contrast, UCCS committed just 35 errors including 10 service errors.
Mackenzie Edwards led the Mavericks with 18 kills including seven in the Mavericks 25-20 win in set three. She completed the double-double with 13 digs and added three block assists.
Sophomore libero
Taylor Woods finished with a team-high 21 digs and three service aces.
Hattie Gianinetti was the only other Maverick in double-digit kills with 11.
Colorado Mesa will be on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Denver to take on MSU Denver for the second time in four days.
