GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest to No. 19 MSU Denver on Friday evening in Brownson Arena. The Mavericks fall to 18-5 on the season and 12-3 in the RMAC while the Roadrunners improve to 21-3 overall and 16-0 in the conference.
MSU Denver hit .228 in the match and had three hitters record double-digit kills while limiting the Colorado Mesa attack to .133 behind 11 blocks.
The Mavericks lone set they won came in the second where they held MSU Denver to a match-low .024 hitting percentage.
Hattie Gianinetti finished the set with five kills while
Taylor Woods recorded eight digs.
After dropping the third set, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 5-0 lead before surrendering it to Colorado Mesa at 14-13. After trading points until 19-19, MSU Denver scored the next two points for a lead they wouldn't relinquish in taking the final set.
Gianinetti led the Mavericks with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .462 while teammate Mackenzie Edwards also had 13 kills and added nine digs.
Woods finished her night with 18 digs.
The Mavericks will be back in action tomorrow evening (Nov. 5) at 7pm when they take on the UCCS Mountain Lions in Brownson Arena.
