LAST WEEKEND
Colorado Mesa dropped back-to-back three setters to No. 17 MSU Denver and Colorado Mines last week. The loss to the Roadrunners in Denver on Tuesday was the first three set loss for the Mavericks on the season. Colorado Mesa returned home for Senior Night on Saturday evening and fell 3-0 to Regis.Â
UPCOMING MATCH
The Mavericks will be on the road to open the RMAC Tournament when they travel to Denver to play Regis for the second straight match. The Rangers have had the Mavericks number this year, winning a five-setter on Sept. 23 and won in straight sets last Saturday in Grand Junction.Â
RMAC TOURNAMENT
The Mavericks will be the No. 5 seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. MSU Denver went unbeaten in the regular season and will be the No. 1 overall seed followed by Colorado Mines, UCCS and Regis as the top four seeds.
ALL RMAC TEAMS
Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards and junior
Hattie Gianinetti were named first team All-RMAC by the coaches this week. Edwards finished in the top ten in the RMAC in kills and kills per set while Gianinetti finished third in the conference in hitting percentage. Sophomore
Taylor Woods was named to the second team while seniors
Ali Svorinic and
Gabriela Dias were honorable mention picks.
KEYS
A couple of keys to look for in the matchup with Regis. The Mavericks have won all their matches after winning the first set so a quick start could spell success. The other factor could be on the block. Colorado Mesa is 9-0 when they outblock their opponents.
TOUGH HOME LOSS
Something happened in last Saturday's match that doesnt happen very often to the Mavericks in Brownson Arena...they were swept. The last time Colorado Mesa was swept at home was October 27, 2012 when they were swept by No. 25 Adams State.Â
LOSING SKID
The Mavericks were swept in back-to-back matches last week for the first time since 2011 when they lost to Colorado Mines and No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney on the road.Â
NATIONAL POLL
MSU Denver holds pat at No. 17 in the rankings while Colorado Mines dropped to No. 23 after dropping a five-setter to Colorado Christian last week.Â
