DALLAS – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball team had three players score a combined 57 points in a 99-78 season-opening loss at Dallas Baptist in the RMAC vs. Heartland Conference Shootout Friday (Nov. 11).
James Sylvester,
CJ Davis and
Eimer Lopez were the only Maverick players in double figures as each finished with 19.
The game was a tale of two halves for the Mavericks who shot just 35-percent (11-31) in the first and improved to 60-percent (17-28) over the final 20 minutes.
Dallas Baptist enjoyed a 46-29 lead at halftime after shooting 52-percent (19-36) over the first half and followed up with a consistent 53-percent (39-73) in the second.
The Patriots spread out the scoring with 10 different players scoring, including five in double figures. Myles Johnson led DBU with a game-high 23 points.
CMU made twice as many trips to the free throw line as DBU (22-11) shooting 68-percent (15-22).
Dallas Baptist finished with a narrow edge in rebounds (36-33) but
Connor Nichols pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for Mesa, including six offensive.
The Patriots led 26-15 in assists.
Colorado Mesa (0-1) will face St. Edward's (0-1) Saturday (Nov. 12).
