GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the second straight night, the Colorado Mesa volleyball team swept their opponent in Brownson Arena. Tonight, they took down the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) and moved to 13-3 on the season and 7-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
In the first set, the Mavericks squeaked out a close match winning 25-21. The Cowgirls had a higher hitting percentage then the Mavericks but committed 11 errors to Colorado Mesa's five.
Mackenzie Edwards picked up six of her match-high 13 kills in the first set. Edwards finished the match with a double-double, adding 10 digs.
It was all Colorado Mesa in sets three and four, winning each 25-15.
Hattie Gianinetti had an efficient night, finishing with nine kills and a match-high .471 hitting percentage. She had a set-high five kills in the match-clinching third set.
Senior
Ali Svorinic finished the night with 34 assists (11.33/set) and helped the hitters swing for a .267 hitting percentage.
The Mavericks will stay at home next weekend for matches with Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines.
