SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team defeated the Westminster Griffins in straight sets on Friday evening in Behnken Field House in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
The Mavericks claimed the first set 25-21 despite committing 13 total errors in the set.
Hattie Gianinetti led Colorado Mesa with four kills in the set.
Colorado Mesa took control of the match by taking the second set in convincing fashion 25-17. They hit .389 in the set with
Katie Scherr leading the way with six kills in the second set alone.
CMU completed the straight set victory with a 25-20 win in the third and final set.
The middle attack for the Mavericks dominated the evening.
Hattie Gianinetti finished the evening with 12 kills and a .688 hitting percentage while teammate
Alyssa Chutka had 10 kills and a .320 hitting percentage.
Ali Svorinic finished with a 11.67 assist per set average (35 total assists) and two kills.
Naomi Pinnecoose,
Taylor Woods and
Kricket Adleman all finished in double-digit digs.
Colorado Mesa improved to 18-4 and 12-2 in the RMAC while Westminster fell to 4-18, 2-11 in the conference.
The Mavericks will return home next week and play host to nationally ranked MSU Denver on Friday November 4 in Brownson Arena.
