David Tann ran into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record book rushing for six touchdowns to lead the Colorado Mesa University football team to a 63-42 win over Adams State on Homecoming Saturday (Oct. 22) at Stocker Stadium.

Tann joins Thelbert Withers of New Mexico Highlands (1992), Russ Hodgson of Colorado Mesa (1982) and Ray Overstreet of Adams State (1975) as the only players in league history to rush for six touchdowns.

Tann also caught a 72-yard touchdown pass. Overall Tann finished with 157 rushing yards, 105 receiving yards and 262 yards of total offense.

But don't forget about CMU quarterback
Eystin Salum. In his first start at quarterback Salum completed 19-of-23 passes for 307 yards, threw two touchdown passes and finished with a 223.4 rating. He also ran for a game-high 275 yards (12.5 ypc).

He is the first Maverick to rush for more than 200 yards since Jake Cimolino ran for 233 yards against New Mexico Highlands in 2012.

The Colorado Mesa offense racked up 826 yards of total offense (519 yards rushing, 307 yards passing) and scored a touchdown on nine of its first 10 possessions. The one it didn't? They were stopped just inches from the endzone as the first half ended.

The first quarter was an offensive shootout with the two teams scoring a combined six touchdowns and the Mavericks leading 28-14.

Both teams scored two touchdowns in the second quarter as CMU led 42-28 at halftime.

Mesa opened the second half with three straight touchdowns before Adams added a pair late.

The Mavericks wasted no time scoring with five of its scoring drives taking less than two minutes and two were under one minute.

CMU did not punt in the game.

Adams finished with 489 yards of total offense (111 yards rushing, 378 passing).

Alec Barcellos led the Maverick defense with eight tackles.

Dustin Rivas, the RMAC Academic Defensive Player of the Year, intercepted his team leading fifth interception of the season.

Tonight's 63 points was the most by a Maverick football team since it scored 64 against New Mexico Highlands in 2005.

Colorado Mesa (6-2, 6-2) will play at New Mexico Highlands (0-8, 0-7) Oct. 29.
