ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team picked up a huge road win on Saturday evening defeating Adams State 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18) in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match.
The win gave the Mavericks sole possession of third place in the RMAC standings and just a one match back in the loss column of first place.
"We came together as a team and played Maverick volleyball tonight," sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Edwards said. "We dealt with adversity well and the team had great energy."
Edwards finished with 15 kills and completed the double-double with 21 digs. She also accounted for 18.5 total points on the evening.
Freshman
Allison Smith had the hot hand for the Mavericks, finishing with a match-high 19 kills and 20.5 total points. Smith had a hitting percentage of .415 and also recorded five digs.
"It was a great win for us tonight," Smith said. "Ali (Svorinic) was setting me some great balls and we really came together in the end to take the win."
Svorinic finished the night with a match-high 58 assists (14.5 assists/set) with the Mavericks having 62 total kills.
The Mavericks will return home for their first full weekend of matches on the season. They will take on CSU-Pueblo on Friday evening before a showdown with New Mexico Highlands on Saturday evening.
