GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball earned some revenge defeating Regis in five sets Saturday (Sept. 26). The Rangers defeated the Mavericks 3-1 in Denver on Sept. 11
th.
CMU came out flat in the first set falling 25-17 after hitting -.088.
The Mavericks righted the ship in the second hitting .212 and holding the Rangers to -.045. Strong serving from
Taylor Woods would give CMU an early 9-3 lead before going on to win 25-17.
Mesa used several rallies in the third set to win 25-17. CMU scored four straight to pull within one 10-9. The Mavs would take the lead at 17-15 thanks to another four point run.
Regis would end the match with four straight attack errors.
RU capitalized on an 8-1 run in the middle of the fourth set to win in extra points 26-24 and force a decisive fifth set.
CMU dominated the fifth set hitting .500 with six kills and zero errors. CMU scored seven straight points to lead 7-1 before winning 15-7.
Caitie Breaux, a transfer from Regis, finished with a match-high 15 kills and 12 digs.
Erin Perez was the second Maverick with a double-double thanks to 10 kills and 16 digs.
Hana Peterman tallied 32 assists and 10 digs, and
Taylor Woods finished with 17 digs.
Regis finished with a 10-4 edge in service aces.
Colorado Mesa (6-7, 4-1) will play at New Mexico Highlands Oct. 2
nd.
