LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa volleyball team dropped the first set but rallied for a four-set win at New Mexico Highlands Friday (Oct. 2).
Alyssa Chutka and
Hattie Gianinetti both hit over .500 for the match and recorded a combined 27 kills.
The Mavericks hit a team-low .111 in the first set falling 25-16.
Mesa responded in the second hitting a match-high .406 with only two errors to earn a convincing 25-14 win.
The CMU offense continued its strong play in the third set hitting .323 to win 25-15.
The Mavericks tallied a match-high 17 kills to win in extra points in the fourth 26-24.
Hattie Gianinetti finished with a match-high 17 kills and hit .519.
Alyssa Chutka tallied 10 kills and hit a match-high .529.
"Alyssa played great in her first career start and both middles played well," said head coach
Dave Fleming. "Kricket got us going with her serving defense and even threw in kill. Tonight was a good team, even when we didn't play our best volleyball."
Adleman accounted for all four CMU service aces and had nine digs.
Taylor Woods finished with a match-high 28 digs, and
Ali Svorinic made a match-high 37 assists.
CMU (7-7, 5-1) will play at Western New Mexico Saturday (Oct. 2).
