SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH –
Audrey Steinkirchner recorded 22 kills and Hatti Gianinetti added 13 for Colorado Mesa but it wasn't enough as the Mavericks lost its first RMAC volleyball match of the season at Westminster Tuesday (Sept. 22).
CMU led in kills (56-50), digs (67-63) and assists (55-43), but also recorded 29 attack errors to 17 for WC. The Griffins hit .232 for the match while the Mavericks finished at .166. WC finished with a 10-2 edge in service aces.
"Westminster deserved the win," said head coach
Dave Fleming. "They played as a team and with a ton of confidence. Amara Culpepper took some huge swings, and we were not able to stop her."
Westminster opened the match strong offensively hitting .222 to take the first set 25-19.
CMU hit a team-high .194 to win the second 26-24.
The Griffins recorded just one attack error and hit a match-high .400 to win the third set 25-17.
Mesa would out-hit Westminster .158 to .150 in the fourth but fell 25-21.
Erin Perez finished with a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs.
Ali Svorinic finished with a match-high 34 assists and 10 digs, and
Hana Peterman added 15 assists.
Taylor Woods, the reigning RMAC Libero of the Week, dug a match-high 21 balls.
Colorado Mesa (4-7, 2-1) will make its home debut Friday (Sept. 25) against Chadron State.
