COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – For the second straight night the Colorado Mesa University volleyball team needed five sets, and for the second straight night the Mavs came away with the win. CMU defeated UCCS 3-2 to remain undefeated in league play (2-0) Saturday (Sept. 19).
The Mavericks led in most statistical categories including kills (64-48), digs (111-87), assists (60-44) and blocks (16-15).
Erin Perez led CMU with a match-high 17 kills and 11 digs for the double-double.
Caitie Breaux also had a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs.
Ali Svorinic was the third Mav with a double-double thanks to 42 assists and 23 digs.
Taylor Woods paced the Mavs with a match-high 38 digs.
UCCS won the opening set in extra points, 26-24, as CMU committed 12 errors.
Mesa hit a match-high .262 to win the second 25-16 and won a close third set 25-23.
The Mountain Lions hit a team-high .171 to win the fourth 25-19.
Mesa tallied 10 of its 15 points in the fifth set on kills for the win.
CMU (4-6, 2-0) will make its home debut Sept. 25
th against Chadron State.Â
