Volleyball Falls Twice in Denver

DENVER – The No. 18 Colorado Mesa University volleyball team closed the Colorado Premier Tournament with a pair of losses Saturday (Sept. 12). Missouri S&T defeated Mesa 3-0, and UC-San Diego defeated Mesa for the second time this season 3-1.

"Everyone on the team is frustrated," said head coach Dave Fleming. "We get close but can't get over the top. We miss by one swing, or one dig. I believe in the individuals we have in the gym. Now we have to find the team."

The CMU offense struggled against Missouri S&T hitting .167 for the match. CMU would tally 12 attack errors in the opening set falling in extra points 26-24.

Both teams would hit over .300 in a marathon of a second set that ended 30-28 in favor of S&T. Missouri S&T won the third set (25-19) and the match.

Ali Svorinic led the Mavericks with 35 assists. Kricket Adleman and Taylor Woods each finished with 11 digs for CMU. Mackenzie Edwards led CMU with 10 kills.
CMU's offensive struggles continued against UCSD hitting .168.

The Tritons jumped out to a 2-0 lead (25-18, 25-23). CMU won the third set 25-22 thanks to a team-high .306 attack percentage. UCSD won the fourth set 25-21.

Mackenzie Edwards tallied a double-double for CMU with a team-high 12 kills and 14 digs.

Taylor Woods finished with a match-high 26 digs for CMU.

CMU (2-6) will open RMAC play at MSU Denver Friday (Sept. 18).
