GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University men's basketball rallied from a 28 point second half deficit to score an 83-75 overtime win over Black Hills State Friday (Feb. 6).

The Yellow Jackets shot 53-percent (15-28) from the field in the first half, including 10 3-pointers.

The Mavericks shot 33-percent (8-24) from the field to trail 43-22 at halftime.

Black Hills opened the second half with a pair of threes to lead by a game-high 28 points two minutes in.

The Mavericks responded immediately going on a 20-0 run.

Julian Vasquez scored 11 of the final 13 points during the run. Vasquez finished with a game-high 24 points, all in the second half. He shot 8-of-11 from the field and made all seven free throws.

Joe Kiely gave the Mavericks their first lead of the game since the first five minutes of the first half with a lay-up with 1:50 remaining.

The two teams would trade baskets with Vasquez scoring the final two for CMU.

Jerry Duckworth's shot with less than one second remaining just missed the mark sending the game to overtime tied at 68.

The Mavs dominated the extra period 15-7 thanks to 3-pointers from
Ryan Stephan and
Derek Biale. Mesa also made seven-of-eight free throws in the extra period.

Stephan scored 22 points, including 18 in the second half and overtime. He also pulled down seven rebounds.

Landon Vermeer added 13, and
Jerry Duckworth finished with 11 points.

Joe Kiely led the team in both rebounds (eight) and assists (6).

Four of Black Hills starters scored in double figures. Nick Ongarato and Brady Bisgaard each finished with a team-high 14 points.

CMU finished with a 37-16 edge in points off the bench.

CMU (15-7, 10-6) will host Chadron State Saturday (Feb. 6).Â
