HISTORY WITH THE LANCERSColorado Mesa and Cal Baptist are meeting for the first time ever this weekend. Colorado Mesa will return the trip to Riverside next season for a four-game tilt with the Lancers in February.

NON CONFERENCE SCHEDULEThe Mavericks will conclude their non-conference schedule this weekend. All three of their opponents in this portion of the schedule competed in the NCAA West Regional last season. Cal Baptist lost to UC-San Diego in the consolation semifinals to end their season.
POLLSColorado Mesa is ranked in the top ten in the four national polls this week. They are ranked as high as second in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll and as low as eighth in the Perfect Game poll. Their opponents, the Cal Baptist Lancers, are ranked No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Coaches poll.Â
YOUTH MOVEMENTFreshman
Zach McLeod has stepped in and taken over the shortstop position from All-American
Nate Robertson who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks. McLeod has yet to commit an error and leads the Mavericks in hitting with a .462 average and four doubles.Â
STARTING ON A STREAKColorado Mesa opened the season on a five game winning streak. That is the longest opening game to loss streak since at least 2002. Last season, the Mavericks opened the season 4-0 after sweeping the Dixie State Red Storm at Suplizio Field.Â
BEING CRAFTYThe Mavericks' first two weekends have been against some of the top teams in the West Region and in all of NCAA Div. II. Their pitchers have posted a 2.08 ERA and opponents are hitting at just a .246 clip in those games. Freshman
Nick Cardinale, slated to start game three, is a part of the rotation and started his first game last weekend.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPColorado Mesa played for the NCAA National Championship last year coming up just short to Southern Indiana 3-2 in 12 innings. It was the first time in program history the Mavericks have reached the National Championship game.
ON DECKThe Mavericks will open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend when they play host to Colorado Christian next Friday through Sunday.
