Landon Vermeer scored a career-high 25 points to lead Colorado Mesa to an 84-73 win at New Mexico Highlands Friday (Feb. 13).
Vermeer shot 8-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-6 from deep, and made all four free throws. He grabbed three rebounds and three steals.
Julian Vasquez came off the bench to score a game-high 27 points, one shy of his career-high. He also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Ryan Stephan was the third Maverick with more than 20 points finishing with 22 to go along with seven rebounds.
Jonathon Miles led the Cowboys with 18 points.
The Mavericks game plan from the start was simple, shoot 3-pointers. The Mavericks first seven field goals of the game came from behind the arc.
Landon Vermeer was unstoppable in the first half scoring 19 points with five 3-pointers.
The Mavericks led 47-32 at the break.
Highlands battled back in the second half and tied the game at 59 with 10:23 remaining.
The Maverick lead remained in single digits until the team closed the game on a 9-0 run to win by 11, 84-73.
Mesa shot a season-high 91-percent (20-22) from the line.
Colorado Mesa (17-7, 12-6) will play at Western New Mexico Saturday (Feb. 14).Â
