GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – In a battle of heavyweights in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, No. 22 Colorado Mines prevailed with a 3-2, five-set win over Colorado Mesa on Saturday evening in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks won the first set 25-19 but dropped the next two 25-18, 25-23 to fall behind two sets to one.
In the third set, Colorado Mesa led 23-20 but surrendered the next five points to the Orediggers.
The Mavericks won the fourth set convincingly, 25-18 but then fell in the fifth set 15-11.
Caitie Breaux finished with 13 kills on 56 attacks and added 15 digs and three blocks.
Abby Ney tied for a match-high with 16 kills and two and a half blocks while
Erin Perez finished with 16 digs.

Taylor Woods finished the night with a match-high 34 digs.
The Mavericks fall to 15-10 on the season and 13-4 in the RMAC.
The final match of the regular season is next Friday evening when the Mavericks take on RMAC newcomer Westminster in Brownson Arena at 7pm.
