Volleyball Headed to Championship

GOLDEN, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team advanced to the RMAC Tournament Championship Match for the second straight year thanks to a 3-1 win over MSU Denver Friday (Nov. 20).

The match was a rematch of last year's tournament championship where Colorado Mesa defeated MSU Denver 3-0.

Colorado Mesa (18-10) will face Colorado Mines (26-5) for the championship Saturday (Nov. 21).

The CMU defense led the Mavs to wins in the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-14. Mesa held Metro to attack percentages of .088 and .000. CMU's attack was nearly unstoppable in the second hitting .444 with eight kills and zero errors.

The Roadrunners earned their lone set win in the third after holding the Mavs to a team-low .088 attack percentage.

CMU won the match thanks to a 25-22 win in the third.

"Great win tonight," said head coach Dave Fleming. "I am happy and proud of this team. We played tough and served really well in games one and two."

Serving was a bright spot for the Mavs who recorded a season-high 13 aces in the match, including five from Kricket Adleman.

Abby Ney led the CMU offense hitting .542 with 16 kills and three errors.

Audrey Steinkirchner was the other Maverick in double figures with 11 kills.

Ali Svorinic finished with a match-high 42 assists, and Taylor Woods recorded a match-high 19 digs.

Brandi Torr led the Roadrunners with a match-high 17 kills.

"We played really well and were in an aggressive mode throughout the game. It was a great win for us."
