GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team dominated offensively and defensively in a 3-0 win over Western State Tuesday (Nov. 17) to advance to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals Friday (Nov. 20) in Golden, Colo.
The Mavericks hit .203 in the match and held the Mountaineers to .093. CMU led in kills (42-29) and digs (66-52).
Mesa used a six point run early in the first set to lead 11-7 and went on to win 25-22.
CMU hit .175 in the second set with 14 kills and held WSCU to .081 with nine kills to win 25-18. The set featured 10 ties and seven lead changes.
Western hit a team-high .140 in the final set, but CMU hit a match-high .295 to win 25-17. Mesa served consecutive points six times during the final set, including a run of four points and another of five straight.
Caitie Breaux recorded the lone double-double of the night with 10 kills and 12 digs for CMU.
Hattie Gianinetti hit a match-high .381 with eight kills and zero errors.
Ali Svorinic tallied 35 of the team's 38 assists, and
Taylor Woods recorded a match-high 25 digs.
Jordan Eatwell led Western State with a team-high 10 kills.
CMU (17-10) will face MSU Denver in the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament Friday (Nov. 20) in Golden, Colo.Â
