GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team had four players finish with 10 or more kills in a 3-0 sweep of CSU-Pueblo Friday (Oct. 9).
Erin Perez led the Mavericks with a match-high 13 kills and tallied 12 digs for the match's lone double-double.
Caitie Breaux and
Audrey Steinkirchner each finished with 12 kills.
Hattie Gianinetti hit an astonishing .714 with 11 kills on 14 attempts.
Taylor Woods was a factor serving all night for the Mavericks accounting for three of the team's five service aces and added 10 digs.
Ali Svorinic tallied 50 of the team's 51 assists.
CMU finished with a strong edge in kills (54-36), digs (46-32) and assists (51-35). CSUP tallied 11 blocks to two for CMU.
The Mav offense came out firing hitting a match-high .444 with 21 kills to win the first set 25-22. The offensive production continued into the second set hitting .286 to win 25-21.
CSUP would hold the lead for most of the third set until a kill by
Hattie Gianinetti tied the set at 22. CMU won the set 25-22 thanks to two kills and two attack errors by CSUP.
CMU (8-8, 6-2) will host Western State Saturday (Oct. 10).
