SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team had five players record 10 or more kills in a four set win at Black Hills State Saturday (Oct. 31).
Hattie Gianinetti finished with a match-high 14 kills and hit .243.
Caitie Breaux notched a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Abby Ney and
Audrey Steinkirchner each had 12 kills, and
Erin Perez had 10.
Black Hills hit a team-high .349 in the opening set to win 25-19.
Both teams struggled offensively in the second set. CMU hit .066 compared to .018 for BHSU to earn the extra point win 26-24.
CMU hit a match-high .387 with 16 kills while holding BHSU to -.032 and only six kills to win 25-13.
Mesa followed with 16 more kills in the fourth to win 25-23.
"Overall it took all 15 of us to be successufl," said
Abby Ney. "When we are all in go-mode and disciplined on every play, we make positive plays happen on the court. Ultimately we control our own destiny because of the talent all 15 of us contributed this weekend."
CMU led in kills (64-42), assists (61-39), aces (4-3) and digs (106-84).
BHSU led 11-7 in blocks.
Taylor Woods tallied a match-high 39 digs,
Ali Svorinic had 42 assists.
Kenzie Kazmer and Danielle Torpey led Black Hills with 11 kills.
Colorado Mesa (14-9, 12-3) will host Colorado Christian Friday (Nov. 6).
