GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team remained unbeaten at home with a four set win over MSU Denver Saturday (Oct. 24). The win was the sixth at home and 13
th of the season for CMU who completed the season sweep of MSUD.
The Maverick offense struggled early hitting -.097 with 11 errors and eight kills falling 25-14 in the first.
CMU's offense improved in the second and third sets hitting .225 in both. MSUD by comparison hit .073 and .157.
The second set was a back and forth affair with four lead changes and six ties. CMU won the second 25-18 and the third 25-20.
The Mavs hit a match-high .333 with 17 kills to win the fourth 25-22.
Hattie Gianinetti led Mesa with 13 kills, and
Audrey Steinkirchner added 12.
Caitie Breaux recorded the double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Abby Ney had 11 kills, and
Erin Perez had 13 digs.
Taylor Woods made a match-high 22 digs, and
Ali Svorinic had 42 assists.
The Roadrunners led in aces (7-4) and blocks (6-2), but the Mavs led in kills (52-51), assists (48-46) and digs (72-69).
CMU (12-9, 10-3) will hit the road for matches at South Dakota Mines and Black Hills State next weekend (Oct. 30-31).
