Abby Ney hit .556 with a match-high 11 kills to lead the Colorado Mesa University volleyball team to a 3-0 RMAC volleyball win at South Dakota Mines Friday (Oct. 30).
Caitie Breaux also finished with a match-high 11 kills, and
Ali Svorinic tallied 34 assists.
Taylor Woods finished with a match-high 16 digs.
SDMT finished with a 12-11 edge in kills in the first set, but CMU lead in attack percentage .206 to .108 to win 25-18.
The second was a narrow affair until the Hardrockers made a run to lead 20-14. The Mavs would not back down winning 12 of the last 15 points for a 27-25 victory.
CMU dominated the third set hitting .524 with 13 kills to win the third 25-9. SDMT hit .000 with seven kills and seven errors.
"Tonight was a great test of our character, and we proved a lot when it mattered," said
Caitie Breaux. "It's always tough being down and finding the heart to fight back, but being down by as much as we were in the second and pulling off the win showed the determination and desire to win among all 15 of us. We had contributions from everyone in that set, and we truly came together as a team to accomplish something that is very hard to do."
CMU hit .259 for the match and held SDMT to .105. The Mavs finished with a 42-31 lead in kills and a 41-30 edge in assists.
Colorado Mesa (13-9, 11-3) will play at Black Hills State Saturday (Oct. 31).
