DURNAGO, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University football team earned its seventh win of the season with a 21-13 win at Fort Lewis Saturday (Oct. 24). The seven wins are the most by the Mavericks since the 2007 season when they finished 10-2.
Mesa relied on a pair of big plays for its first two touchdowns of the game.
On just the second play of the drive,
DJ Hubbard ripped off a 74-yard run to the endzone for CMU's first touchdown at 11:44 of the first quarter.
The Mavs second score of the game came through the air with

Virnel Moon for the 71-yard score at 12:47 of the second.
The Skyhawks got on the scoreboard with 31 seconds remaining in the half with a 31-yard field goal to cap a nine-play, 73-yard drive.
FLC pulled within four, 14-10, with a two-yard touchdown run by LyDell Williams at 3:55 of the third. The run completed an eight-play 65-yard drive.
CMU's final touchdown of the day came from
David Tann on a four-yard run as part of a 10-play, 78-yard drive at 14:56 of the fourth.
Kipp Castanha completed the scoring with his second field goal of the day, this one from 45-yards at 13:57 of the fourth.
CMU quarterback
Sean Rubalcaba led all players in both rushing and passing. He ran for 114 yards on 23 carries (5.0 ypc) and completed 9-of-20 passes for 180 yards.
DJ Hubbard was the second Maverick to rush for over 100 yards finishing with 110 yards on 10 carries (11.0 ypc).
Both teams took care of the football with neither team committing a turnover. CMU finished with 55 penalty yards and FLC had 25.
Mesa controlled play on third down. CMU was 9-of-16 (.563) on third down and held FLC to 3-of-13 (.231).
The Mavs led the Skyhawks in rushing (286-189), passing (180-152) and total offensive yards (466-341).
Blake Nelson led the CMU defense with 10 tackles, seven solo, with 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards.
CMU (7-1, 6-0) will host Colorado Mines on Oct. 31 at 1 pm. The game will be the final home game of the regular season for the Mavericks.
