GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team had four players finish with more than 10 kills in a four set win over UCCS Friday (Oct. 23).
Erin Perez finished with a match-high 15 kills, and
Caitie Breaux tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs.
Abby Ney hit .500 with 13 kills and recorded three of the team's four aces.
Audrey Steinkirchner added 12 kills.
Taylor Woods led all players with 24 digs with
Kricket Adleman adding 10.
Ali Svorinic had a match-high 45 assists.
The Mavs held the Mountain Lions to a match-low .071 hitting percentage in the first to win 25-19.
UCCS turned the tables in the second hitting a match-high .357. CMU hit a team-low .086 with 10 errors falling 25-20.
Mesa got behind early in the third, trailing by as many as four points. The Mavs used a pair of four-point runs to lead 11-9. CMU would lead by as many as five before holding on for a 25-23 win.
CMU won the match thanks to another 25-23 win in the fourth behind 18 kills.
UCCS hit .163 for the match compared to .153 for CMU, but Mesa finished with a 60-47 edge in kills. The Mavs led in assists (59-44), aces (4-3) and digs (70-52). UCCS led 7-5 in blocks.
CMU (11-9, 9-3) will host MSU Denver Saturday (Oct. 23).
